My Priestly Atemoya (Man Cau Dai)

I'm very happy to eat my first grown atemoya last night. It was fun sharing it with my family. Everyone seem to enjoyed it. The taste is sweet, a very slight sour, soft and chewy. Overall very refreshing. The fruit is softer than expected since it was ripe on the tree. Next time I'm going to pick it before it gets ripe. This fruit have a slight pinkish color...not sure why since this is not the red variety. It weigh about 315 grams...bigger than my hand could hold. There are more seeds than expected but it was because of no sunlight. Hopefully I will get more fruits this summer...:)

Hi, Ch3rri ... Mang Cau la my favorite. I am drooling, just looking at your pictures. I especially like the picture of plants growing on your deck. It looks like VN or Florida, not PA. You must have a very green thumb.

I also like your blog and food very much. Thanks for doing this,

S/K

Yes, please post more pictures. I'd love to see them. I live in MD, and the cherry blossoms here will be in bloom soon. I will take pictures of the cherry blossoms for you. I think you'll like them.

Oh dear...browsing your blog and looking at your food has just made me hungry again!!!

How interesting, it looks a lot like the Cherimoya, which I always pick up at the grocery store when I see them, even if they cost a small fortune. A taste of summer....

This is in the same family as the cherimoya. However, this is a lot sweeter. I love this fruit! Taste very similar to cherimoya and sugar apple. Can't wait for it to have fruit again this year.

Hi Ch3rri,

Are you sure your plant is a Priestly? I thought Priestly atemoya supposed to be white not red. Looking at the fruit, I am thinking your atemoya is actually the 48-26 variety. 48-26's are easier to bear fruits. In PA and lack of sunshine, it's hard for Priestly to bear fruit. Hopefully we have an atemoya expert to help us clarify these varieties.

I ordered it from Top Tropical Nursery. I called them up and asked and he say the Priestly is good to grow here and can trim to stay small...lol. And the tag say Priestly on it.lol But it's still good. I heard a lot of good thing about the 48-26. I wanted to get another variety too. But have too may tropical trees already. :)

Wow. I love Man Cau Dai. This kind of tropical tree can grow in PA? Do you put on your deck or inside the house? From the picture, it looks like you have the plant inside. Thank you for sharing.

I leave the plant on my deck when temperature is over 50F. I bring it in during the winter and leave it at the morning room so it can have some sunlight.
