Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year to everyone! I've been so busy this weekend making food for CNY. We made zongzi, a traditional Chinese food, made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves. We also made neen gow, a New Year's cake made of glutinous rice flour and brown candy sugar. All these are must have for New Year. Somehow this year I really want to eat them. I fried some zongzi on New Year Eve and it was very good. The long zongzi have glutinous rice, mung bean, and pork as stuffing. The triangular ones are made out of glutinous rice, peanuts, shiitake mushroom, and pork. As you can see their leaves are not as dark and shiny....that's because we forgot to wrap them while they were still wet. We were too busy gambling...LOL.

Hi Cherri, it's Amy again, do you also have recipes for the triangle dessert wrapped in bamboo leaves? The filling contains mung beans, and coconut. And recipe for Nem? It's pork cured which is also a new year dish. thanks!!

HI Amy. I do not have a recipe for banh tet. We just soak the glutinous rice, mung bean, and marinate the pork for filling. We add a little salt to the rice, and some salt to the mung bean. You will have to soak the bamboo leaves and then boil it and clean it first. Then wipe it with some oil. Then add in a layer of glutinous rice and then some mung bean and then the pork, then some more mung bean on top and glutinous rice again. then fold and wrap and tie. Have to boil them for a long time until cook.

As for the I do not have a recipe for the mung bean coconut and nem. The nem seasoning have the recipe right on the back of the package. My mom made nem chua just from following the direction on the back. And for nem ngoc, you'll just have to add more sugar. Good luck. Happy Holidays!
